So What Are Our Youth Up To, Anyhow?
In January, the youth group explored resolutions and intentions in light of the Millennium Development Goals. They also cooked Brunswick Stew for the ladies of Caritas on Wed, Jan 23. A big thank you to Malinda for helping organize this project! This is actually the second time the youth group has helped with CARITAS. They also made and served dinner at Holy Comforter on December 19. In February, in order to have time to reflect on their experiences with CARITAS, the youth are studying the feast images from the Gospels. They began their study by looking at the Parable of the Unwilling Guests in Luke (Luke 14:16-24). We also played quite an array of games involving food. Be sure to ask our youth what foods begin with the letter “Q.” It was quite a fun time, especially since no one got stabbed with a fork!
St. Mark’s Youth Group Alliance
The Jr. and Sr. High Youth Groups meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month September through May. The groups meet from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the St. Andrew's Episcopal and Holy Comforter Episcopal youth. The evening begins with dinner followed by games and a Bible Study or service project. The youth are encouraged to bring $5 to cover the cost of dinner. The Youth group is meeting in the upstairs youth room at St. Mark’s for the remainder of February. We will then move to St. Andrew’s in Oregon Hill, where we will begin youth group by attending their Wednesday Celtic Prayer Service. Youth Weekends at Shrine Mont
8th Grade Weekend at Shrine Mont: The 8th grade retreat hosted by the Parish Youth Ministries (PYM) is held at the end of September. The weekend brings 8th grades together from all over the diocese and includes a campfire, games, and a dance. The cost is $100. Sponsorship is available and confidential. Dates for this coming Fall are to be announced.
Jr. High Weekend at Shrine Mont: The Jr. High retreat is for 6th and 7th graders. It is hosted by the Parish Youth Ministries (PYM) and is held in mid-November. The weekend brings together 6th and 7th graders from all over the diocese. The cost is $120. Sponsorship is available and confidential. Dates for this coming Fall are to be announced.
